What is Hue & Cry

Hue & Cry is a Wellington-based art and literary journal, increasingly recognised as a distinctive voice in the New Zealand art and literary scene. The journal exists to promote emergent artists and writers, and to encourage communication within and between the art and literary communities throughout New Zealand. Offset printed, we take a curatorial approach to contributions as a whole, organising the journal as an aesthetic space. Hue & Cry is published and co-edited by Chloe Lane, with Lawrence Patchett as co-editor and Andrea Bell as art editor, and designed by The International Office.

'Hue & Crys new issue, Champion This!, is a delight and a pleasure to behold, skim, put down, and finally soak up from cover to cover.' Pulp Magazine

Hue & Crys meticulous, minimalist design recalls the uncluttered, austere authority of '70s Landfall, and its well worth picking up. Real Groove

This no-holds-barred, black and white zine tells it like it is this collection speaks in a refreshingly honest voice. Art World Magazine

Hue & Cry is made possible by the support and generosity of a number of people and institutions. In particular we would like to acknowledge and say a big thank you to Creative New Zealand, The Chartwell Trust, Jim & Mary Barr.
